Advocacy Corner

Many students may wish to engage in political advocacy.

Advocacy is important because it can positively influence public policy, protect rights, and promote social inclusion. Advocacy efforts can help to ensure people with disabilities have equal access to opportunities and resources.

There are many ways students can get involved in political advocacy, including:

  • Learn about the laws that protect the rights of people with disabilities
  • Contact elected officials
  • Volunteer with a local disability advocacy agency
  • Share your stories and experiences

This page will be a hub for resources that help students advocate on issues that are important to them! Here, students can find:

  • An advocacy guide to help students outline issues/problems that are important to them and identify their local representatives
  • Sample letters to representatives to advocate for important issues
  • Sample emails and phone scripts to request meetings with representative
  • Example videos of students advocating for themselves with their legislators
